LENTIGO

Lentigo can also be called wet spots. Most types of lentigo are caused by exposure to the sun or radiation. Lentigo is most common in middle-aged or older people.

Solar lentigo is caused by sun exposure and is often called age spots or liver spots. Solar lentigo usually appears on parts of your body that are exposed to the sun.

Ultraviolet radiation breaks down the connective tissue - collagen and elastin fibers - located in the deeper layer of the skin (dermis). Without supporting connective tissue, skin loses its elastic quality. Known as solar elastosis, the condition is characterized by yellowed, thickened skin with deep wrinkles that don't go away.
